Upon Arrival at The Fox Residence Guinea Pig Sanctuary
Xena - Warrior Princess
Xena was a private surrender to the shelter as her owners either could not, or would not, care for her any longer. She was suffering severe mange and fungal infections and her whole body was ridden with painful, scabby skin, and she was having major seizures as a result of the pain and the itch. Xena would cry at any touch...but she had the most incredible will to survive. She was bandaged for many months to make her a little more comfortable, these were replaced regularly and Xena required a bath every few days. She slowly lost most of her fur and infected skin. Eventually her fur grew back thick and beautiful, but the process took over 6 months. Xena is loved by anyone who has followed her story, and her personality and courage is admirable. She is the cheekiest, most spoilt princess who does not like other piggies, despite our desperate efforts to give her a friend, and so Xena lives right next to our kitchen where she gets treated like piggy royalty, as she should.
